Synchronization Options
When you Synchronize, you have an option that affects how object security from the Source side is applied to the Target system. By default, as ActiveBatch migrates objects, the creator/owner of the object is the account that performs the migration. In addition, whatever Source object security is present is discarded and the migrated objects inherit the security of the root or target plan default policy security. If the migrated object has "inherit security" checked on the security property sheet, then the default policy would not apply, and the migrated object would obtain security from its parent container. Any subsequent update to a job (or a job that already exists on the target) will have no change made it its security (meaning that we preserve the security on the target object). This typically makes sense, in a production environment, since the domain and other security in place for development and/or QA is not applicable. Two (2) checkboxes are available (farthest right side of the button bar) for changing this behavior: Restore Original Security and Restore Original Owner. With one or both enabled, the original Source side owner and/or security is maintained (kept the same) through the Synchronization.
Four (4) additional checkboxes are available as part of Synchronize: “Use Path Only”, “Disable Source on Sync”, “Import Tags” and “Create Missing Tags”.
Use Path only: By default, when a comparison and synchronization operation is performed, Change Management uses the GUID on the Source system to determine whether the same object exists on the Target system. This is proper if the Target system’s objects have always been promoted via Change Management. When this is not the case “Use Path Only” causes a simple comparison of the path to determine if the object exists on the Target system. Users may find the “Use Path Only” form of comparison and synchronization to be less problematic if changes are being made to the Target system outside of Change Management.
Disable Source on Sync: This option allows you to disable the object on the Source system after it has been promoted to the Target system.
Import Tags: If enabled, this option allows you to import tags associated with the Source objects and have them applied to the Target.
Create Missing Tags: This option will create missing tags (if any) on the Target system. If tags are missing and the “Create Missing Tags” option is not enabled, the tags will not be imported to the Target system.
